I Love You So (remix breakdown)

Welcome to 2011.

Cassius - I Love You So
French House duo produces the original track in 2010. hypermellow vibes. i wouldn't even call it house honestly...

LA dubstep duo Trowa jumps on the track and sends it into outer space with this dubstep remix in 2010.
standard dubstep track. wobbles yes. but not so much where everyone calls it robostep or something equally lame.

o.g. dubstep pioneer Skream flexes his jungle muscles and throws us a curve ball with this nice drum & bass remix.
cool but not the coolest IMO (tough crowd huh?)

Yeezy & dirty south pioneer Mike Dean  revamp the track for Kanye and some shitty rapper to spit over on their album "Watch the Throne"...

how i rate 'em:
1. Cassius Original Mix
2. Trowa Remix
3. Skream Remix
4. Kanye/Mike Dean Remix

all versions are listenable but i feel that the inherent dopeness of the original sample source goes a long way

oh ya.
click the title track for links to each .mp3 respectively

what do you think?

The Stepkids - Legend In My Own Mind

awesome new video from new Stones Throw Records (responsible for: madlib, madvillainy, j dillas donuts, etc) artist The Stepkids.
Probably my favorite video of the year so far.
Feel good vibes and sights and sounds are a perfect fit.
Video features Wyatt Cenac of Daily Show fame.

"i know you like that hip-hop"

Kilian Martin: A Skate Escalation

some awesome techy freestyle skating. highly rec. this & the other two parts

soundtrack reminds me of how much i love this album:

freak folk @ its finest.
i love it when the album cover looks exactly how the album feels.
listen to this one while biking to the beach.

nostalgic '60 pop/soul track
well done/not too heavy handed on the retro production

The Genrationals - "When They Fight, They Fight" (2009)

enough of the immitation/retro/neo/whatevers

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today (2010)

if you don't already know Ariel Pink this video serves as a pretty fitting intro:
(and he makes out with half the front row @2:30 so thats pretty rock n roll)
the 'time capsule' sound is almost immediately endearing and reminds me of '68 underwater.
never serious and always sexy (or at least faux-sexy) and full of unabashed pop licks that never sound poppy.
definitely not for everyone but most definitely loved by many!

"Before Today" is Ariel Pink's 'indy-major' label debut for 4AD after numerous self releases and a few through Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label.

Just over a year old but feels like a 'classic' album after the first listen.

tl;dr... sexy, dirty, bedroom pop.
